The internet has become a great challenge to copyright policies, and internet communities like these are a special factor in the discussion on them.
The SOPA/PIPA/ACTA matter has shown that the awareness of copyright policy in general is very high; artists on dA took a firm stand on copyrights/copylefts, dA itself allows direct access to Creative Commons licenses for every submission.
As a group on Linux, we should expect even higher awareness for licensing, for Linux is a "proof-of-concept" that even a complex project like an Operating System can be put into practice without restrictively copyrighted and closed source content.
